Who Should Attend
Staff that have an adult or young person client base in a secure or acute facility who may have conditions such as: dementia or cognitive impairment; functional mental health issues; acute mental health issues; severe and enduring MH issues; recovery services; acquired brain injury.
Aims of the Course
To update delegates on physical intervention skills to staff working with patients whose behaviour challenges. Staff gain knowledge & skills in the physical & theoretical side of restrictive interventions & to be assessed on their competence to apply the techniques & methods safely.
Deliverables
This course is delivered in a spacious room, and combines a mix of theory and primarily practical based skills. Delegates will gain knowledge & skills in the physical & theoretical side of P.I. and will be assessed on their competence to apply the techniques & methods safely.
All skills learnt are delivered via The General Services Association (GSA) curriculum, whereby the GSA develop and disseminate best practice in the management of violence and aggression, primarily in health, social care and educational settings.
Course Programme
- To understand & justify the use of Physical Intervention in relation to guidance and policy.
- To implement the safe and the least restrictive Physical Intervention skills e.g. escorts; seated de-escalation; supine safe decent to the floor; prone safe descent to the floor; scenario based techniques; seclusion.
- To identify and understand the risks associated with Physical Intervention.
- To implement a culture of transparency for Physical Intervention, in relation to patient centred care planning.
- To implement effective debrief sessions, in relation to guidance and policy.
