Summary

Motivational Interviewing is an approach towards behaviour change across a range of needs, including weight loss, smoking cessation, alcohol reduction as well as less explicitly health care needs. It is increasingly recognised as a powerful alternative to more directive means of intervention which encourages joint decision making between the practitioner and the client/patient, and which embraces and enhances the client/patient’s autonomy. This short interactive course looks at the ethos behind the approach and the methods by which it takes place and gives opportunities for participants to practice and reflect on their use of Motivational Interviewing.
